Research

In addition to student training, the Chair of Underground Mining and Special Processes is able to carry out all research relating to underground mining and related fields thanks to the broad range of expertise of its staff. The research work is funded by German and international research institutions as well as a large number of industrial partners.

In addition to work on optimising and supplementing known working methods in underground mining, research and service tasks to ensure and improve safety and working conditions for miners, the research work focuses on the development and testing of new types of machines and materials for underground use as well as other future-oriented tasks, which can be summarised in the broadest sense under the terms "mining without people" and "optimising the utilisation of deposits".
