ResuS within the regional network recomine (Projektdetail (recomine.de)) aims to develop a holistic recycling and treatment concept for mining contaminated subaquatic sediments of the dams and lakes in the Erzgebirge. As the sediments are mainly contaminated by As, Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn, there is a need to find substance-specific ways to recycle as much of the sediments as possible. The sediments may be used as substrate for agriculture, forestry or remediation sites, or additive in brick industry. Besides scientific investigations also legal aspects are considered to develop an adaptive and economical sediment management strategy.

Therefore, at the Hüttenteich, located in South of Freiberg, methods for representative sediment sampling by divers are tested and a comprehensive investigation program is applied. Based on the analytical results recycling options linked to possible treatment technologies are evaluated.

At the end of the project, a sediment management concept should be created as well as the practicability of at least one promising recycling option should be exemplarily demonstrated for the Hüttenteich.
