In 2024, the University Library will once again manage an Open Access Publishing Fund. This can be used to pay article processing charges (APC) for publications in Gold Open Access journals for scientific authors at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
Funding is available for the publication fund for the years 2024-2026 from the German Research Foundation’s „Open Access Publication Costs“ program. Therefore, the following adjustments have been made to the funding conditions of the Publishing Fund for TUBAF members:
- The total publication costs (incl. 19% VAT) will be raised to a maximum of €2,500 per article (net: €2,100). Please note: For invoices with a foreign reference, the invoice amount is a net amount, accordingly 19% VAT must be added to the net amount.
- Higher invoice amounts are still not supported, not even with partial amounts. The only exception: publications as part of DFG (German Research Foundation) research projects are funded proportionately up to €2,500, provided that no sufficient third-party funds are available. Only in these cases is it possible to split the invoice.
- The note „Open Access Funding by the Publication Fund of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg.“ no longer needs to be included.
The following also applies: For publications in third-party funded projects, authors are obliged to pay the publication costs from any available third-party funds. We must also ensure that multiple financing from DFG research funding and this DFG publication grant from the fund is excluded.
Funding will still not be granted for so-called hybrid journals, i.e. subscription-based journals with an additional (often cost-intensive) open access option. Additional costs for fast processing, excess length or similar are also still not covered.
All information on the funding requirements, the funding application process and the invoice requirements can be found on our website. We continuously evaluate the use and the funding conditions; depending on the availability of funds, we may have to make changes to the funding conditions.
Prioritize the publication options in the existing publishing agreements or memberships for TU Bergakademie Freiberg (including the new contracts with Elsevier, Springer Nature or Wiley). This means that scientists at TU Bergakademie Freiberg already have a comprehensive range of open access publication options.
