History
Thanks to the work of Karl-Armin TRÖGER (born 1931), the Stratigraphic Collection now occupies a leading position in Germany. In its didactically exemplary exhibition, important profiles and sedimentation areas of Central Europe, including Western and Eastern Europe, are presented in bio- and lithostratigraphic differentiations. Taking into account the global palaeogeographical situation in the respective geological period, the connection is established between the formation and habitat as well as rocks and fossils, over more than four billion years of earth history.
Collection
The collection contains around 70,000 macrofossils and over 12,000 microfossils as well as around 15,000 lithostratigraphically and facially relevant rock samples. There are also around 14,000 specimens and cuttings.
