Blick in die Ausstellungsräume der Paläontologisch-Stratigrafischen Sammlung

Parts of the Palaeontological and Stratigraphic Collections can be seen together in an exhibition in the Humboldt Building.

Exhibition of the Palaeontological Collection

In addition to an introduction to the historical development of the collection, the exhibition presents the basics of fossilisation, systematics, palaeobiology and phylogenetics of the organisms with often outstanding and rare exhibits. The focus is on invertebrates and plants that are important for geology. The principle of organisation follows the natural system of organisms. The basis for the palaeozoological part of the exhibition is the seven-volume "Textbook of Palaeozoology" by A.H. MÜLLER.

Exhibition of the Stratigraphic Collection

The principle of order is the formation period of the rocks (with the fossils they contain) and the various sedimentation and formation areas (orogens, old platforms, young platforms). Particular emphasis is placed on the recording and presentation of type profiles, biostratigraphic key forms, phylogenetic series and ecological differentiations.
