On this page you will find the most important information about the Advanced Materials Analysis (AMA) degree programme, primarily for students who have already been admitted and need information about the start of the first semester.
If you have not yet applied, you can find information about the degree programme on the degree programme page.
Admission to this degree programme takes place in the winter semesters. Teaching in the winter semester 2025 begins on 20 October.
In addition to the general information events organised by the International Centre, the faculty also offers introductory events specifically for AMA in October:
- Presence, 17. October 2025, 9:30 am, MET-2065 (Gustav-Zeuner-Str. 5, 2nd floor)
In these events you will receive all relevant information about the study programme. The following are points that are often requested in advance.
Compulsory modules for first-year students are in the summer semester (with link to the course in OPAL):
- Functional Nanomaterials
- Fundamentals of Crystallography
- Introduction to Atomic and Solid State Physics
- Quantum Theory I
Possible compulsory elective modules:
- Semiconductors
- Stochastic Methods for Materials Science
- Thermodynamics of Materials without Lab Course
There is also a German course. You can start with the basic course (A1.1), but if you want to start at a higher level, you must present a corresponding German certificate.
Descriptions of the course content can be found in the module handbook.
