Under the motto "Modern materials for the challenges of the future - become part of the solution", ten school students from Saxony and Thuringia will meet from 13 to 15 February 2024 for an event organised by the "Science meets school" student laboratory at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
The staff at the school laboratory, Ms Annett Wolf and Ms Anja Weidner, have put together an interesting programme for the pupils. The programme includes interactive virtual reality experiences and discussions with students from the Racetech team, as well as the question "Does damage make you smart?" and various experiments on the subject of material properties to answer this very question. There will also be a visit to the company SAXONIA Edelmetalle to learn about the recycling of platinum.
Jakob Noritzsch, Year 12 student at the Berufliches Schulzentrum Kamenz, says: "I particularly like the varied programme. In addition to interesting presentations, there is also a lot to watch and participate in. I'm also impressed by the excellent organisation. I became aware of this offer through the TUBAF website and the information flyer I received for Campus Day on 11 January 2024."
Background: Winter University Materials
Since 2023, the student laboratory on the subject of materials at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg has been organising a 3-day event during the winter holidays, where students can experience both the university and the working life of scientists as well as the connection to industry up close. An important aspect of this is, of course, getting hands-on in workshops.
