Section 3: Questions about programme regulations
Most of the relevant information can be found in the internet site and in the answers to the questions below. Information about specific modules, electives, etc. will be accessible through the intranet after enrolment. For beforehand information about individual modules, please consult the module lecturer(s).
There are mandatory modules that have to be taken by all. The programme is complemented by optional modules and free electives.
All non-German speakers have to additionally select a set of two German language modules (one per the first semester and another one in the second semester) which together yield 8 ECTS points. German native speaking students choose from other modules offered in the university.
The IBRE master is a full-time programme with approximately 30 ECTS points to be earned every semester. As a rule of thumb, calculate some 30 ECTS points per hour that you invest in the programme (lectures, seminars, tutorials, and self-study at home). The resulting approx. 900 hours per semester clearly cannot be done part time.
IBRE is a taught programme, it requires students to be on-site (i.e. in Freiberg) during the semester for lectures, seminars, tutorials, and the examinations. Distance learning, or Open University course (a "Fernstudium") is not possible.
At times of the Covid-19 pandemic, however, more flexibility is granted: all courses are currently being tought online or in hybrid system offering in-person and online teaching, so that students who do not get their visa early enough can still participate.
The programme of course offers the possibility to retake an exam that you failed. Each module offers additional exams in the following semester. You however cannot retake a successful exam to improve your grade, and there are only two opportunities to retake an exam, a fourth attempt does not exist.
Failing a third attempt will result in exmatriculation from the programme.
The certificate granted after successful completion of the programme is Master of Business Administration in International Business and Resources in Emerging Markets (MBA).
The certificate will also list the specialisation that you chose, the modules you have taken in your partner university and your additional modules that were not required in the programme (if any).
