Questions about admission to the programme

What documents do I have to hand in at the very least to be admitted?

For a first evaluation we do require as soft copies the transcripts of records of your Bachelor, Master or Diplomas. These documents have to be duly attested! In case you are still studying, please provide us with a preliminary transcript of your records and the date when you are going to finish your studies. If something else is missing, e.g. the analytical test (GMAT or GRE) or the English test, then do proceed with your application, inform us and submit the missing documents later.

What field of previous education is required?

To be considered for the MBA IBRE programme, you need a completed study programme (Bachelor, Master or Diploma) in the fields of business studies, economics, or other studies with a significant content related to economics or business (including at minimum micro and macro-economics; international economics; general business studies; marketing; cost accounting; production and logistics; organisation and human resource management; informatics; investment and finance). Students with an engineering or natural science education are not eligible.

No, there is not, this is too much country-specific (sometimes even region-specific, as e.g. in Germany, GPAs are not easily comparable between East and West and North and South). We compare between applicants over many years, but we do not have or publish a solid minimum GPA for any region/country. As a general rule, your GPA should be clearly above average to support your application. We place more weight on the analytical test (either GMAT or GRE) and the motivation letter. The analytical test is an expensive investment, but I trust you understand that we need this. Send us your result as soon as it comes out, we do look for around 50 percentiles, but we do consider the whole package.

We may waive the English test in such cases, but we treat this on an individual basis by considering all documents to supply in the application process. Students with English as their mother-tongue of course are exempted.

All applicants from CHINA, VIETNAM, INDIA, and MONGOLIA have to hand in one of the originals of APS result report. Without the APS, a admission to the programme is not possible. The test must confirm your knowledge in your relevant field of study.

The MBA IBRE programme is not focused on mathematics, but some previous knowledge of higher mathematics is needed. This is due to the fact that increasingly, the sciences of business and economics use quantitative methods of data analysis that are based on mathematical modelling.

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT )  and the New Graduate Record Examination (GRE) are tests that are offered in most countries of the world. The tests are conducted according to the same rules everywhere and will test your level of development of analytical ability in a globally standardized form (the language of the test is English, but the analytical test must not be confused with an English language proficiency test.

You will understand that because of incomparability of university grades between universities, let alone between universities of different countries, the admission process needs an instrument that allows better comparability. We chosse the GMAT or the GRE for that purpose. One of these tests has to be done and the result submitted to us before coming to Freiberg, there will be no enrolment without.

A good GMAT or GRE score with more than 570 points or more than 305 points respectively are strong arguments for you as an applicant. Send us your result as soon as it comes out, we do look for around 50 percentiles, but we do consider the whole package. A result below this will not automatically exclude your candidatureship, but weakens your profile. The analytical test is an expensive investment, but we trust you understand that we need this.

The analytical test, either GMAT or GRE, is compulsory, there is not waiver for that application requirement (there are GMAT/GRE waivers for students of double degree partner universities UPEC and CUGB, who run their own tests).

If possible, try to get a visa to start very early in October. Our university organises some orientation days before the start of the lectures to help you settle in.
Lectures start around the second week of October and coming late is not possible. Moreover, I will organise an important introduction meeting typically on the Friday before the lectures start or during gthe first week of lectures. After that, you will be fully engaged in studying.

No! All courses will be held in English, hence knowledge of German language is not necessary for the programme. However, we do require non-German speakers to take German courses as a part of the IBRE programme. The credit earned will be accredited in your MBA credit account.
