Motivation letter

A precise and concise text, in which you tell us 

  • why you selected IBRE, 
  • how you relate your previous education and/or working experiences with the topics/modules of the programme, and 
  • how IBRE can help your future career plans. 

Write this as if it were a cover letter for a job application with a length of 1 page (not more!) including the usual letter heading and signatiure list.

Bachelor's degree
  • (or similar) of a 3 to 4-year programme (depending on the country), in the fields of business studies, economics
Curriculum vitae
  • including your higher education background and your work experience
Proof of English language proficiency
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with at least 90 points (IBT) (DI Code 8233)
  • Or: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (academic test) with a minimum of band 6.5
  • Or: equivalent English language test, e.g. Pearson Test of English for Academics  (PTE Academic) with a min score of 60

A waiver for the test of English language proficiency will be granted to students with English as mother tongue, and may be granted where the previous education was completely in English language. The English test can be taken in form of an oral exam in Freiberg. This will take place before the letter of admission to the study programme can be issued.

Proof of topical/analytical proficiency
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT): we usually expect something like a minimum of 570 points for the verbal and quantitative sections (Programme code 123-ZK-23)
  • Or: GRE General Test: we usually expect a minimum of 305 points for the verbal and quantitative reasoning sections) (DI Code 8233)

More information about this requirement

The test may be waived for applicants with a complete Bachelor or Master in business-related subjects from the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, as well as for applicants from partner universities with double degree contracts (UPEC, WUP, WUST, CUGB).
