The Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg is the oldest university in the world specialising in mining and metallurgical sciences. Founded in 1765, the Bergakademie has its roots in mining and metallurgy. To mark the 300th anniversary of the establishment of the scholarship fund for the support of students in need, the “Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg” Foundation was established on 15 November 2002.

The “Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg” Foundation has created an opportunity that enables the university – independently of public budgets – to launch new, forward-looking initiatives and bring ideas to fruition. In particular, the foundation is intended to provide support for staffing in teaching and research as well as the necessary premises and equipment. This also includes an expansion and further development of the range of degree and continuing education programmes, an intensification of knowledge and technology transfer and an increased internationalisation of the university.
