Alumnus of the Bergakademie Dr Hans-Joachim Jagnow and his wife would like to contribute to research funding, particularly for future energy supply, with a foundation. The engineer studied at Freiberg University from 1955 to 1960. He has remained connected to his educational institution to this day and is now making a generous donation to the university foundation. The new "Doris und Dr.-Ing. Hans-Joachim Jagnow-Stiftungsfonds" will be administered by the "Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg" foundation and will be used primarily for innovative research approaches in energy process engineering.
"I would like to give something back to the Bergakademie, which trained me so well - also in honour of Professor Erich Rammler, under whom I studied," said Dr Hans-Joachim Jagnow at the foundation of the endowment fund.
The fund is to be used for research and student work in areas such as energy process engineering: "Hans-Joachim Jagnow presented the interesting idea of developing adsorbents from plastic coke to purify gases. This could be used to concentrate a wide range of impurities to a very high degree, enabling highly efficient retention," explains Professor Martin Gräbner, Head of the Institute of Energy Process Engineering and Chemical Engineering at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
The daughter of the founding donors, Andrea Carolin Alius, and her husband were also present at the signing of the foundation deed on 10 October. Andrea Carolin Alius will take over responsibility for the "Doris und Dr.-Ing. Hans-Joachim Jagnow-Stiftungsfonds" in due course and thus continue the commitment and values of her parents in her spirit.
The Freiberg University of Mining and Technology Foundation
Foundations, donations, grants, endowments, scholarships and prizes have been a permanent fixture for the TU Bergakademie Freiberg since its founding to this day in the promotion of scientific talent and students, the support of science and research and teaching through the funding of pioneering projects. "The funds of the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology Foundation enable the university to take new, future-oriented initiatives and realise ideas," says Professor Jutta Emes, Rector of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and Chairwoman of the Board of the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology Foundation. "The new fund donated by Hans-Joachim and Doris Jagnow makes a particular contribution to developing innovative solutions for the challenges of tomorrow's energy supply. We would like to thank the donors for their outstanding commitment."
In particular, the foundation is intended to provide support in securing personnel for teaching and research as well as the necessary spatial and material equipment. This also includes the expansion and further development of the range of courses and further education on offer, the intensification of knowledge and technology transfer and the increased internationalisation of the university.
