Every three years, Lindau on Lake Constance becomes the venue for an exclusive get-together of young scientists and the most renowned researchers in the field of economics. Twenty Nobel Prize winners meet around 300 scientists. Dr Anja Brumme from TU Bergakademie Freiberg will also be attending the current Lindau Meeting from 26 to 30 August 2025. For the economist, the Lindau Meeting is a unique opportunity to talk to Nobel Prize winner Professor Roger B. Myerson in person.

Before she left for Lindau, Dr Anja Brumme explained: "I was very surprised and overwhelmed that my application to take part in the Lindau Meeting was accepted. The selection procedure is restrictive. You must have completed your doctorate no more than five years ago."

Game theory in economics

In her dissertation at the Chair of Environmental and Resource Economics, Anja Brumme used game theory to model international climate policy. She analysed which incentives need to be created so that the various players in climate policy not only pursue their own interests, but also act in the interests of the common good.

In Nobel Prize winner Roger B. Myerson, Anja Brumme will meet one of the world's most important economists and game theorists. He received the Nobel Prize in 2007 for his contribution to "Mechanism Design Theory", a branch of game theory. Back in 1994, economist Reinhard Selten was the only German to receive the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his work in the field of game theory (together with John Nash and John Harsanyi).

"Return inspired" - Lindau Meeting as a source of inspiration

When asked about her expectations of the meeting in Lindau, the young researcher from Freiberg says: "I hope that I will return inspired with new ideas for my own research. Perhaps I can also use my own project ideas to initiate collaborations with other researchers."

Anja Brumme will be posting her impressions of the Lindau Meeting on the TU Bergakademie Freiberg's social media channels (Instagram).

For Anja Brumme, participation is a unique opportunity to make contact with world-leading academics, discuss her own research work and network with other young economists.
