In March 2025, the Chair of Automated and Autonomous Systems was founded as part of the Profiling Initiative 2025 at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. The Chair is headed by Prof. Robert Weidner, who was previously Head of the Chair of Production Engineering at the University of Innsbruck and Group Leader of Robotics at the Laboratory for Production Engineering at Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg.
Research at the Chair focuses on the development and integration of state-of-the-art technologies into the world of work in order to increase productivity, improve ergonomics and conserve resources. One focus is the research of technical systems for the physical relief of manual activities (support systems/exoskeletons) or for the automation of production processes. In this context, methods and concepts for the development, evaluation and optimisation of these applications are being researched.
