Research areas of the group

We deal with thermal engineering systems such as industrial furnaces, industrial heating equipment and combustion systems. We solve tasks relating to process and procedure development, design and thermal engineering calculations. Our primarily application-orientated research is made possible by state-of-the-art measuring equipment. For example, mass spectrometers, flue gas analysers, microscopes, pyrometers and thermal cameras are available at the department. We also develop and build our own measuring devices for specialised tasks. The data obtained is also available for simulations.
From detailed analyses of individual components to the simulation of entire systems: We are equipped for (almost) all challenges.

Focus of our current work:

  • Microwave-hybrid heated systems in the high-temperature range, especially for the glass industry
  • Determination of the dielectric properties of materials at high temperatures
  • Behaviour of refractory materials and steels under various atmospheric influences
  • Development of microwave-assisted pyrolysis plants for CFRP recycling
  • Development of pyrolysis and gasification plants for biogenic fuels and alternative fuels
