Freiberg Forum Biobased Materials

Freiberg Forum Biobased Materials

The new specialist colloquium Freiberg Forum Biobased Materials focuses on current scientific and technological developments in biobased materials and their contribution to a sustainable raw‑material and materials economy. Central topics include approaches for the utilization of renewable resources, biobased polymers, and functionalized biobased materials for industrial applications. The colloquium addresses contemporary research questions concerning the chemical, physical, and materials‑science foundations of biobased materials.

Topics include:

  • structure–property relationships of biopolymer‑based systems
  • novel materials derived from biogenic feedstocks
  • emerging biohybrid material classes.
  • structure–property relationships of biopolymer‑based systems
  • advances in the material use of biogenic resources and biomass,
  • sustainable synthesis and modification pathways,
  • mesoscale structuring and forming processes,
  • approaches for quantitatively assessing ecological material efficiency.

In addition, the colloquium discusses the contribution of biobased materials to resilient, circular value‑creation networks and their integration into industrial applications.

The event is scheduled to take place at the same location and time, and in close thematic alignment with the specialist colloquium “Forum on sustainable value chains: Circular economy and logistics”, enabling participants to easily switch between individual talks.

There will be the opportunity for PhD Students and Postdocs to give talks in one session.

Event time

The conference will start 09:00 and end 17:00 on the 8th of June 2026.

Confirmed Speakers

Prof. Thomas Heinze, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena
