Freiberg Forum Biobased Materials
The new specialist colloquium Freiberg Forum Biobased Materials focuses on current scientific and technological developments in biobased materials and their contribution to a sustainable raw‑material and materials economy. Central topics include approaches for the utilization of renewable resources, biobased polymers, and functionalized biobased materials for industrial applications. The colloquium addresses contemporary research questions concerning the chemical, physical, and materials‑science foundations of biobased materials. Emphasis is placed on structure–property relationships of biopolymer‑based systems, novel materials derived from biogenic feedstocks, and emerging biohybrid material classes.
Further topics include advances in the material use of biogenic resources and biomass, sustainable synthesis and modification pathways, mesoscale structuring and forming processes, as well as approaches for quantitatively assessing ecological material efficiency. In addition, the colloquium discusses the contribution of biobased materials to resilient, circular value‑creation networks and their integration into industrial applications.
The event is scheduled to take place at the same location and time, and in close thematic alignment with the specialist colloquium “Designing Sustainable Industrial Value Chains: From Circular Economy to Renewable Energies and Green Logistics”, enabling participants to easily switch between individual talks.
