Further information

For some time, we were looking for new software for modern, user-friendly and intuitive literature management, which - financed as a campus licence by the university library - is available free of charge to all students and staff at TU Bergakademie.

To be clear from the outset: unfortunately, there is not THE ONE program that can meet the requirements of all users. As with many other products, there are pros and cons to every software on the market. And each of you will justifiably weigh these advantages and disadvantages differently based on your own needs. As a university library, we would like to satisfy as many of your needs as possible in this area too, but for capacity reasons we are only able to licence and provide support for one solution for the campus. We made the decision anything but easy for ourselves and, after various tests, finally opted for Citavi software from the Swiss company Swiss Academic Software.

Citavi is already in use at around two thirds of all German universities, including many technical universities.

The programme is characterized by its user-friendliness, an easy-to-understand interface and excellent support from the company.

Citavi 6 can be installed on all computers with Windows 10 or 11 - further information can be found in the manual. Alternatively, you can use the browser-based and therefore operating system-independent Citavi Web.

Using Citavi on Mac/Linux
To install Citavi on a different operating system, a virtualization solution is required (see the manual for instructions on installing on Mac).

Of course, you can also use other reference management software - you can get an initial overview here:

  1. Install Citavi.
  2. Create a Citavi account to be able to use the site licence.
    Important:
Log in via Shibboleth: Authenticate yourself there with the username and password of your university account. (Information on Privacy)
  3. Start Citavi and enter your account email and password. You can find more information in the Citavi manual.

Switching from another reference management software to Citavi is easy. Citavi has functions for importing data from other software products.
If the import does not work without problems, please contact us or contact Citavi Support directly.

Citavi offers detailed information and help on the software, information on support and service as well as manuals and training materials in several languages:
