The university library is THE central information centre at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. As a library and lecture hall centre, it is a popular meeting place for students and one of the most important communication centres on campus. Numerous and varied workstations, expert advice and an extensive stock of historical and current literature on the university profile are available to our users in print and online.

Our library, founded in 1765, is also known far beyond Germany for its outstanding old stock of geoscientific and mining literature. Current topics such as open science, research data management and mixed reality are also part of our remit.

Your visit with us

Before entering the reading rooms, please lock jackets and coats as well as bags, rucksacks and the like in one of the lockers on the 1st floor. Our new baskets can be used to transport work materials and books you have brought with you.

Before using the lockers for the first time, the student or service ID or user ID must be activated at the circulation desk/information desk. The lockers are locked and opened with the student or service card or user ID and are only intended for the duration of the stay in the University Library.

You can obtain a guest pass to lock your belongings at the circulation desk/information desk for a deposit.

The lockers must be emptied daily, at the latest by the time the University Library closes.

Eating and drinking in the library is not permitted. This does not include water in transparent, sealable bottles.
