A successful start to your degree! Take a test first, then study
A degree or vocational training? Which subject area do you particularly enjoy? In which areas do your own strengths and skills lie? Can enjoyment, skills and talent be combined?
The WIN Orientation Programme at TU Bergakademie Freiberg offers the opportunity to answer these and other unanswered questions about your future by trying things out. Over two semesters, you can explore course content from the fields of Earth Sciences and Geoengineering, Engineering, Economics and Law, Computer Science and Robotics, as well as Natural Sciences – can be individually tailored to your own needs, explored and trialled.
Whilst you’re working towards making the right decision, you can already sit exams which, upon application, will be credited towards a degree programme you subsequently choose. With the WIN Orientation Programme, you are enrolled at TU Bergakademie Freiberg with student status.
Take one or two semesters to try out a degree programme – without any consequences, but with plenty of benefits.
The basic concept behind the WIN Foundation Year
Who is the WIN Foundation Programme aimed at?
For A-level students who are still undecided about their choice of degree course because, for example,
- their school subjects do not yet point to a specific degree subject and/or
- they have several areas of interest, meaning several degree subjects are possible.
Entry requirements
To be admitted to the WIN Foundation Programme, the following requirements must be met:
- General university entrance qualification,
- a relevant subject-specific university entrance qualification or
- a qualification recognised as equivalent, and
- the applicant must not yet have been enrolled at another higher education institution.
Start
- for the winter term (October)
- for the summer term (April)
Duration
1 to 2 semesters
Degree
A certificate confirms participation in the foundation programme and the successful completion of examinations, stating the marks and ECTS credits.
Upon application, successfully completed module examinations may be recognised towards a degree programme at TU Bergakademie leading to a professionally qualifying Degree.
Costs
The term fee is 107 euros.
Structure of the WIN Foundation Programme
The introductory programme comprises three clusters from which modules can be freely selected:
- Subject-specific programme area comprising modules from existing Bachelor’s and Diplom degree programmes (Economics and Law, Engineering, Geosciences and Geoengineering, Computer Science and Robotics)
- Mathematical and natural sciences
- Key competences, such as languages or ethics

Application deadlines
Applications are open for the summer and winter semesters:
- for the winter semester, by 30 September.
- for the summer semester, by 31 March.
