Graduating with greater self-efficacy: The project team has already successfully tested the BeSOS Toolbox – which includes practical tools for student self-regulation – at seven pilot schools in Saxony. The project is now expanding across the state, as the team offers professional development workshops and online training sessions for teachers and career guidance counselors throughout Saxony.

“Nearly 3,000 teachers and career guidance counselors are already using our guide and the tools it provides for their students. We’re getting a great response from the field. Every training session generates further inquiries, and we’re currently developing formats for training multipliers to meet the demand – for example, for teacher training programs in Dresden and Eastern Saxony to reach the next generation of educators,” explains Dr. Kristina Wopat from the Graduate and Research Academy at TU Bergakademie Freiberg

BeSOS stands for a set of counseling tools designed to strengthen or restore the career orientation skills of students experiencing mental health challenges. BeSOS is funded as a flagship project within the “Bildungsketten” initiative by the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Free State of Saxony, with funding from the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.

The project addresses an area that has previously been overlooked in the education of young people. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, students have been increasingly affected by mental health challenges. This impacts their academic performance and, ultimately, their career and college choices. BeSOS, an innovative approach to stress management and self-regulation, offers a toolkit that schools can easily integrate into their daily educational practices.
