Digitalisierung und Automatisierung von Benchmarking-Workflows für geowissenschaftliche Prozesssimulationen – DigBen

Project description:

The aim of the project is to develop and implement a web platform for both automated and interactive benchmarking for the simulation of thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) processes. Benchmarking includes the systematic testing of models in order to accurately describe experimental findings from laboratory and field tests and to reliably use the verified models for the planning and optimization of new experiments. The automation of workflows, in which models and data can be directly linked, allows a considerable acceleration in the evaluation of experiments and also better quality assurance and reproducibility of results. Interactive tools will enable users of the platform to integrate their own evaluation algorithms, data and even models for material description and process simulation. On the technical side, this is to be realized via preconfigured Jupyter notebooks, which can be adapted by the user to specific problems via a web interface. This will be demonstrated using a benchmark collection for THM processes for geotechnical applications as an example.

In the joint project, we are responsible for the hierarchical testing of constitutive models throughout a range of process models and codes, namely OpenGeoSys and FEniCS.. As a result, TUBAF will provide methods, data repository templates and runtime environments for the interactive testing of models, for model comparisons and for the direct embedding of experimental data from laboratory and field tests and make them available via the web platform. Any software developments required for this will be made available to the general public as open source software at the development stage via the GitLab instance of the OpenGeoSys project (gitlab.opengeosys.org). Complete and open documentation means that the developments can be reproduced and traced at any time.
