The Faculty of Geosciences, Geotechnical Engineering and Mining is reissuing the German language book Leben auf der Erde. Eleven years after its first publication, the content has been updated and supplemented with new insights from current research. On 10 November at 12 noon, anyone interested can get an exclusive sneak preview of the new book.

“Our planet is a habitat, a source of raw materials and energy, and at the same time a challenge. How we manage its resources, how we generate energy, design infrastructure and tackle climate change – all of this requires scientific and technical solutions based on a deep understanding of the Earth system,” writes editor Professor Carsten Drebenstedt in the editorial to Leben auf der Erde.

Uncovering treasures with geoscientific expertise

The book covers everything from the historical roots of the Faculty of Geosciences, Geotechnical Engineering and Mining, through its structure and departments, to current, forward-looking research projects. It demonstrates the diversity of the disciplines within the Geosciences and geoengineering: from research into the processes within the Earth’s interior to the sustainability of the use of the geosphere and its surface.

The book was first published in 2015 to mark the 250th anniversary of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. In 2016, the book received the ‘Red Dot Design Award’ for its design. Anyone interested can order the book at dekan [dot] f3 [at] fggb [dot] tu-freiberg [dot] de (dekan[dot]f3[at]fggb[dot]tu-freiberg[dot]de)
