The research focus of the Heisenberg Group "Physics of Quantum Materials" is in the field of group IV semiconductors and their nanomaterials (mainly silicon and germanium). Based on fundamental research into nano and quantum effects, corresponding materials and nanostructures are experimentally realised and characterised, and their application to test components is investigated. The current core topic is research into novel doping possibilities for ultra-small nanoelectronic transistors through surface functionalisation and charge transfer effects. The influence of point defects and materials for surface functionalisation for high-efficiency silicon photovoltaics are also being researched.
