The Collections of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg: The Silicate Metallurgy Collection - Would there be European porcelain without Freiberg?

The Silicate Metallurgy Collection is a comparatively young and small collection. In 1950, the Institute for Ceramics was founded by Prof Haase. Prof Haase began his teaching activities as early as the winter semester of 1950/1951 with the lectures "Refractory Building Materials" and "Ceramic Technology". From the very beginning, he collected suitable objects for teaching and thus laid the foundation for the Silicate Metallurgy Collection.

However, the history of ceramics at the Freiberg site is much older. The development of European porcelain is closely linked to the experiences of the Freiberg miners. The industrial location of Freiberg was also shaped by porcelain production for decades. The history of the institute and the presentation of some collection items round off the event.

On 2 November at 5 pm, Dr Jana Hubálková and Dr Gert Schmidt will demonstrate the connections between porcelain and Freiberg and present individual objects from the collection. The event will take place in lecture room SIL 0118 of the Silicate Technology House (Institute of Ceramics, Glass and Building Materials Technology, Agricolastr. 17). Admission is free, interested parties are cordially invited.
