The TU Bergakademie Freiberg Publishing Fund can cover the article processing charges (APCs) in open access journals for you. We apply the criteria for publication funds recommended by the DFG (German Research Foundation). Funding is available for the publication fund for the years 2024-2026 from the German Research Foundation's "Open Access Publication Costs" program. We continuously evaluate the use and the funding conditions; depending on the availability of funds, we may have to make changes to the funding conditions.
The publishing fund apply to members and affiliates of TU Bergakademie Freiberg in accordance with § 5 of the Grundordnung as well as guest researchers whose stay is regulated by a guest contract.
Eligibility Conditions
- The “submitting author” or “corresponding author” must be a member of the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg. In the case of multiple authorship, the majority of the scientific work must have been created at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. In the case of multiple affiliation, the TUBAF affiliation must be stated in first place.
- The article will be published in a Gold OA journal, all articles of which are accessible free of charge under a Creative Commons licence immediately upon publication. Preference should be given to the CC-BY 4.0 licence. When applying for the publication fund, the licence must be stated in advance for information purposes. Information on licensing is available in our blog post.
- Funding is not granted for subscription-based journals with a hybrid model. Also excluded are so-called mirror journals, which are merely counterparts of an established hybrid journal. The journal must be listed in the DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) and uses a recognized quality assurance process. If this is not the case (e.g. for new and thus not yet indexed journals), corresponding appropriate quality criteria must be met and the publisher must be a member of the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA). Please note: Some journals published by MDPI have been removed from the DOAJ (e.g. Minerals, Materials, Polymers, Water, ...). This deindexation affects the financing option for publication costs from this publishing fund.
- The total costs for the article (including 19% VAT) are a maximum of € 2,500 per article (net: € 2,100). Please note: For invoices with a foreign reference, the invoice amount is a net amount, accordingly 19% VAT must be added to the net amount. Higher invoice amounts are not supported, not even partially. The only exception: publications as part of DFG (German Research Foundation) research projects are funded proportionately up to €2,500, provided that no sufficient third-party funds are available. Only in these cases is it possible to split the invoice. Under certain circumstances, price negotiations with the publishers are possible, we are happy to support you. For publications in third-party funded projects, the authors are obliged to pay the publication costs from any third-party funds available. Additional costs for fast processing, excess length or the like will not be covered.
- In order to guarantee a transparent overview of the funded articles, these may be uploaded and archived on Qucosa, the document repository of the University Library.
- The TU Bergakademie Freiberg will take part in the Open APC Project. The costs for open access publishing should be made available transparently. For this purpose, we transmit the gross APCs and DOIs paid for the publications funded by the fund once a year. By submitting a funding application, you declare your consent to this disclosure on behalf of all authors.
How to apply
