The topic

The topic of the thesis must be related to the content of the degree programme and must be limited in such a way that the processing time can be met.

Information about the final thesis

In many areas of the respective degree programme, there are recommendations for final degree topics.

Students can therefore find out more directly on the relevant websites of the institutes or in the departments.

Registration for the final thesis can take place if the relevant requirements are met in accordance with the examination regulations (§ 19 / § 20 PO).

In order for students to receive the so-called "Zulassungsbescheinigung", the registration form must be completed in the student office.

Nothing needs to be known about the topic at this point, only the 1st examiner/reviewer (e.g.: university lecturer) is required. The certificate of admission must be submitted promptly to the supervisor/professor/institute who is to supervise the thesis.

Exception:

  • Bachelor's theses of Faculty 4: If the Bachelor's thesis is linked to the specialised internship, the specialised internship must be registered with the Student Office. The form is available from the Dean's Office of Faculty 4 (Form: uniintern).
  • In the case of external supervision (external 1st examiner/reviewer), the Examination Board must approve the external thesis before registration.
  • A leave of absence is not permitted during the preparation of the final thesis!

.

The exact topic of the thesis as well as the beginning and end of the processing time are determined with the supervisor.

The completion period begins when the topic is issued and ends after the period specified in the PO has expired.

The supervisor/secretariat is responsible for issuing the cover sheet for the thesis (samples are available from the secretariat). The cover sheet is complete with all signatures. A copy must be submitted to the student office to meet the deadline (this is usually done by the faculty).

In individual cases, the processing time (amount of time according to your examination regulations) can be extended upon justified request in good time. For this purpose, an informal application must be submitted to the chair of the examination board via the supervising university lecturer.

In the event of illness, an informal application for an extension (as above) must also be submitted with proof (e.g. expert opinion, medical certificate of incapacity for work).

The thesis must be submitted before or by the exact deadline to the Student Office. Please note the opening hours of the student office; an individual appointment may need to be arranged.

Two bound copies with bound cover sheet and signed declaration of independence (completed independently and without outside help, etc.) as well as an electronic version on a suitable storage medium must be submitted.

From now on, the electronic version can be submitted under the OPAL course "Abgabe des digitalen Exemplares der Abschlussarbeit - Submission of the copy of the thesis" .

How does this work? Students register in the course element "Enrolment for submission" and receive access to the course element "Submission of theses". The data can be uploaded there. Once the upload has been completed, an email confirms the upload with the date and time. This email is accepted by the Student Office as proof of submission of the electronic version.
