recomine LLV (learning-teaching-mediation centre) Muldenhütten

Since July 2019, the historic Muldenhütten ironworks complex has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the German-Czech Montanregion Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří. With its stock of monuments, the historic metallurgical site represents key phases in the development of metallurgical technology from the 17th to the 20th century.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the continuous remediation and decontamination of areas and buildings began. At the same time, initial efforts were made to find a subsequent use for the historic smelter site. Since summer 2023, the recomine project LLV Muldenhütten has been working as a pilot project for a new phase of reuse of the World Heritage site.

The project involves the design and initial prototype realisation of a learning, teaching and mediation site at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Muldenhütten as part of the Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří mountain cultural landscape. Embedded in one of the most impressive slag heap landscapes in the Freiberg mining district, the historic hut complex is located on the banks of the Freiberg Mulde.

The central components and milestones of the project include school project days, open days in Muldenhütten and exhibitions.
