Hazard warning map for the Free State of Saxony

The project was commissioned by the Saxon State Office for the Environment, Agriculture and Geology (LfULG). The aim is to develop a methodology for assessing the risk of mass movements for the Free State of Saxony. Mass movements such as landslides and rockfalls jeopardize material assets as well as the safety of people. Hazard information maps can provide an overview of the risk posed by mass movements for large areas and thus offer an important technical basis for spatial and land use planning in order to prevent or at least minimize damage.

SwanRisk:Risk management of natural hazards through monitoring and risk models in Svaneti (Georgia)

The Svaneti region in the Greater Caucasus in north-eastern Georgia is characterized by steep slopes - primarily made of clay shale. Serious mass movements such as severe landslides, rockfalls and debris flows occur frequently and jeopardize the local population and infrastructure. Changes caused by climate change, including the increase in heavy rainfall events, can increase the dangers posed by mass movements. The SwanRisk project is developing an integrated approach that combines geoscientific investigations and remote sensing with the development of a monitoring and early warning system. The data will be used for GIS-based regional hazard maps and for local numerical models that calculate slope stability in selected pilot areas. Based on the integrated investigation, analysis and evaluation, safety concepts for rock slopes and debris flows will be developed.
