The Institute of Geotechnics at TU Bergakademie Freiberg traditionally combines the three pillars of rock mechanics, soil mechanics and engineering geology. Engineering geology conducts interdisciplinary research into processes in the geological subsurface and their effects on geotechnical applications. The fundamentals and applications of engineering geology and environmental geotechnics methods are taught.
