Project SwanRisk
Management of natural risks by means of monitoring and risk models in Svaneti (Georgia)
Funded by the BMBF (SwanRisk, funding measure: GEO:N - Geo Research for Sustainability, funding area CLIENT II Natural Hazards)
Svanetia is a region in the Caucasus of Georgia with partly serious landslides and rockfalls. In the project, environmental and engineering geological investigations are carried out with the aim of assessing the risk potential for the population and for infrastructure. Using existing spatial data, an initial risk assessment is carried out. Based on this, pilot areas will be identified for which geotechnical prediction and risk models regarding rockfalls and landslides will be generated. According to the prediction and risk models, a monitoring and early warning system will be established and a safety concept will be developed.
