CYNiO, DuCem, MiViA and ReViSalt are on the shortlist for this year's Mittelsachsen Award Awards. Anyone who would like to support the innovative TUBAF start-ups can vote here. The awards will be presented on 21 November as part of the SAXEED Innovation Day 2024 at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.

The nominated start-ups and founders were put forward by the start-up network SAXEED and Sparkasse Döbeln and are actively shaping the future of Central Saxony. Four start-up ideas come from the TU Bergakademie Freiberg.

CYNiO produces specialised and scarcely available isocyanates for speciality chemicals. With CYNiO, customers gain a reliable business partner that supplies more sustainable and innovative building blocks for their own products. The team led by Marlene Baumhardt, Michéle Tille and Sophie Riedel uses an alternative, newly developed synthesis process that enables the production of isocyanates using carbon dioxide instead of phosgene. By dispensing with extremely toxic raw materials, the synthesis of isocyanates takes place in less highly specialised and therefore more cost-effective plants. This enables flexible and competitive production of various isocyanates within a reasonable timeframe.

The DuCem UG team has developed a ground-breaking solution with its innovative process for producing thin cement coatings for substrates in drywall construction. The technology enables the company to produce surface-finished construction products such as plasterboard, chipboard, other wood-based materials and also insulation materials, such as rock wool, with improved surface properties. This innovation promises a number of benefits, including reduced construction times, improved project planning and an important contribution to sustainability and the circular economy in the construction industry.

MiViA enables metalworking companies to efficiently check the quality of their products, increase their productivity and set new standards. From grain size classification to microstructure segmentation - the AI engine offers professional microstructure analysis within seconds.

ReViSalt GmbH, led by Michael Heidan, Dr Martin Groß, Robert Wohlfarth and Dr Thomas Voland, wants to revolutionise the glass industry and push the physical limits of glass. The TUBAF spin-off has developed an innovative process that optimises the process of chemically hardening glass so that it requires only a fraction of the usual time and energy. This makes glass interesting for countless new applications. The team advises customers from the glass industry and analyses salt baths that are used to harden the glass. The origins of the technology lie in various research projects at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
