Collaboration between the Software Technology and Robotics and Biogeochemistry research groups honoured
Dr Eric Röder and Gero Licht from the TU Bergakademie Freiberg have been awarded the Water Monitoring Award by the Dr Erich Ritter Foundation, part of the Stifterverband. The prize is awarded every three years in cooperation with the Water Science Alliance e.V. and comes with a cash prize of 50,000 euros, which will be channelled into the team’s future research projects. The award ceremony took place as part of the joint Water Research Horizon Conference (WRHC) organised by the Water Science Alliance and the annual conference of the German Society for Limnology (DGL).
With this award, the jury recognises the long-standing interdisciplinary collaboration between the two research groups on automated water monitoring, which originally began as part of an even broader network at TUBAF and has since evolved through several joint projects between the chairs of Biogeochemistry and Software Technology and Robotics – most recently as part of an ERDF validation grant for the Carry-On project and the ASeeDiZi project, funded by the BMFTR.
The jury particularly highlighted the close collaboration between the two research groups, which has developed over several years, the diversity of the partner organisations involved, and the already advanced stage of publication of the research results in the specialist literature. “The project team will use the award to explore new application scenarios for the developed systems and to further improve the technical robustness of the components for field deployment. At the same time, efforts are being made to spin off a company from the project,” reveals project leader, Assistant Professor Maximilan Lau.
