In a recent study by the "Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft", TU Bergakademie Freiberg is ranked first in terms of size-adjusted patent activity with 23.6 patent registrations per 1,000 students. The patents were analysed in relation to the number of students (Federal Statistical Office, 2023). According to the study, an average of 2.0 patents per 1,000 students are registered at patent-active German universities.

"This is an extraordinarily remarkable achievement by all members of the university," says Prof Tobias Fieback, Vice-Rector for Research, International Affairs and Transfer. "The great number of patents is an expression of the research strength of TU Bergakademie Freiberg and testifies to the innovation and creativity of its members."

Taking the mission first

In particular, the university actively contributes to the implementation of sustainable development goals thanks to research with practical benefits and provides impetus for overcoming current challenges.

The Central Transfer Office, the team of the "Innovative University" project 4transfer and the start-up network Saxeed provide support in mediating between science and partners from business and society.
