In two current international university rankings, TU Bergakademie Freiberg performs extremely well: in the QS World University Ranking, the university is ranked 1st in Germany for the internationality of its students. In addition, TUBAF is ranked first in Germany in the citation per faculty category. The recently published CWUR Ranking also attests to TUBAF's research strength. According to this, the university is among the 7.5% of all universities worldwide with the strongest research performance.

The CWUR ranking analyses the research performance of universities, i.e. the number and quality of publications and citations by researchers. On a point scale up to 100, TU Bergakademie Freiberg achieved a total of 67.8 points. In the QS World University Ranking 2025, TUBAF is ranked 380th among the best universities worldwide and 21st in Germany.

TU Bergakademie Freiberg was evaluated exclusively in the category of research performance in 2024. The ranking lists TU Freiberg in 1488th place out of 20,966 universities assessed globally. For the QS World University Rankings 2025, 1503 universities worldwide were analysed.
