The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering and Energy Technology at TU Bergakademie Freiberg has once again been awarded the "Gütesiegel" by the Association of Faculties of Mechanical and Process Engineering (FTMV). The FTMV has thus confirmed that the faculty meets its high quality standards in the areas of teaching, research and organisation.
“Receiving this award once again confirms the ongoing commitment of all staff involved in research, teaching and the organisation of studies at the faculty,” explains Dean Professor Andreas Bräuer. "For us, this is both a mark of recognition and an incentive to consistently improve our already excellent study and research conditions.”
Practical and well-supported
The faculty combines personalised support for students with practical and experimental teaching. Small study groups and direct contact with lecturers enable intensive support throughout the degree programme. At the same time, with numerous third-party-funded research projects, scientific publications, inventions and patents in applied research, it ranks among the best faculties in Germany.
“It is precisely this close student-tutor relationship that is a particular strength of studying in Freiberg,” says Professor Matthias Kröger. “Our students have direct contact with lecturers, start working in laboratories and on technical equipment at an early stage, and can reliably plan their path to the degree."
The comparative data from the FTMV Quality Seal assessment round show that students in Freiberg complete their Master’s or Diplom degree two years earlier than the average for the participating faculties. In short – they can start earning money sooner and enter the labour market more quickly. The analysis is based on the ‘Distribution of Key Figures for the FTMV Quality Seal Round 2026’. The comparative data available to the faculty also demonstrate its strengths in teaching and research across several years of data collection.
The FTMV Award "Gütesiegel"
The FTMV Quality Mark is awarded every three years to faculties and departments of mechanical engineering and process engineering. The assessment focuses on compliance with specified quality requirements in teaching, research and organisation. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering and Energy Technology at TU Bergakademie Freiberg has been awarded the quality seal for many years.
Background: Faculty Association on Mechanical and Process Engineering
The Faculty Association for Mechanical and Process Engineering (FTMV) is an association of university faculties and departments specialising in mechanical and process engineering in German-speaking countries. Through this seal of quality, the FTMV demonstrates compliance with its high quality standards and provides an incentive for continuous improvement in teaching, research and organisation.
