The DAAD Prize for International Students at TUBAF in 2025 goes to Lazaro García del Real Artero. In addition to his excellent performance in the Bachelor's degree programme in Engineering, the student from Spain is also involved as a tutor and a volunteer in the student chess club. The Vice-Rector for Teaching, Studies and Lifelong Learning presented him with the award at the Germany Scholarship ceremony.

"His excellent technical knowledge and remarkable independence in his academic work have made him one of the best students in the Faculty of Mechanical, Process and Energy Engineering," praised Professor Rüdiger Schwarze, who nominated the student for the award. "I am very pleased about the DAAD prize. The award now encourages me to stay at TU Bergakademie Freiberg for the Master's in Engineering with a specialisation in Energy Technology and to continue to do my best!", Lazaro García del Real Artero says.

In addition to his excellent academic achievements, Lazaro García del Real Artero is characterised by his high level of commitment to his fellow students: In maths and physics tutorials, he contributes to the success of participants in the Studienkolleg at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Outside of his studies, the energy technology student volunteers in the student chess club at TUBAF. "I've been playing chess since I was six years old. The tournaments and meetings of the chess club are not only fun, but also contribute to a strong community on campus."

DAAD prize for international students

The prize, which is endowed with €1,000 per university, is awarded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). According to the DAAD, the prize is intended to help put faces to the large numbers of international students at German universities and connect them with stories.
