The TU Bergakademie Freiberg is taking part in the ‘Sustainability Market’ – which is being held on Schlossplatz in Freiberg on 20 September to mark World Children’s Day – with three initiatives.
Visitors will find concrete answers to the question: “What can I do right now in the face of major global challenges?”. Three research projects and initiatives from the TU Bergakademie Freiberg demonstrate just that:
- At the stand of the Institute of Thermal Process Engineering, Environmental Process Engineering and Natural Product Process Engineering, a hemp board is being produced from hemp fibres using a simple hand press. Visitors to the stand can test for themselves whether this panel is suitable as a new type of building material.
- At the stand of the Institute of Machine Elements, Engineering Design and Manufacturing, flower pots and lampshades are produced using 3D printing from waste materials such as wood shavings or nut shells. The exhibition will demonstrate the potential of this technology to print new and customised products from a wide variety of waste materials.
- At the stand of the European University Alliance EURECA-PRO, the focus is on sustainable consumption and the mindful use of resources in everyday life. A journey into the world of raw materials, ‘The Salt of Life’, will be presented. Visitors can also calculate their own carbon footprint and learn how everyday consumption choices affect the environment and resources.

In addition, more than 30 associations, organisations, shops and farms from the Freiberg region will be showcasing their work; these are all committed to sustainability, particularly in the areas of food, the environment, climate and development policy. To attract as many visitors as possible to the stands, there will be a stamp card this year which can be used to enter a prize draw.&
The Sustainability Market is organised by “Freiberger Agenda 21 e.V.” and “Freiberg für alle” with financial support from the Nord-Süd-Brücken Foundation, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation.
