Applied Geoscience

Study concept

The international Master's degree programme in Applied Geoscience (MGEX) provides students with a solid foundation in various disciplines of geology, environmental science and geophysics. We are looking for talented and motivated students who are committed to their graduate studies. Our goal is to train students for careers in industry, academia and government by employing innovative teaching and mentoring and providing opportunities to participate in cutting-edge research. Students have access to a variety of practical methods from field, laboratory and numerical approaches. Teaching takes the form of seminar work, independent research and integrated courses. Students can choose from the following specialisations:

  • Computational and Mathematical Geoscience
  • Environmental Geoscience
  • Groundwater Resources
  • Tectonics and Geo-Thermochronology

MGEX is attractive for students with a strong interest in research. The degree programme is geared towards a specific specialisation. The first semester includes an introduction to the chosen specialisation with a course on scientific communication. Experimental laboratory and field studies are essential components of the second semester, while the third semester offers advanced courses. The student completes a comprehensive research project and writes a thesis summarising this study. Students defend their Master's thesis at the end of their studies.
