Personal details
Participation by PhD students, staff and guests is subject to availability. Students in degree programmes where German is a compulsory or elective module are given priority.
German language courses are free of charge for enrolled students and PhD candidates. Please provide your student ID number or application number.

University staff and guests are required to pay a course fee of €290 per semester. You will receive an invoice. Please enter your billing address here:

Terms of Access

You have already completed a German course at level A1.2, A2.2, B1.2 or B2.2 German course at TUBAF

  •  -> Registration for the next higher level

You hold an A1, A2, B1 or B2 certificate from a language institute recognised by us (e.g. Goethe, telc, ÖSD, Sprachunion Chemnitz, Acatrain e.V.), another university in Germany or a partner university.

  • -> Registration for the next higher level

You have a confirmation of attendance for a German course at TUBAF. You have previously attended a course here but did not successfully complete it (e.g. failed the exam, did not meet the prerequisites for the exam). 

  • -> Registration for the next higher level + placement test

You have a certificate from a language institution not recognised by us or a certificate of attendance for a German course, or your certificate is more than 2 years old.

  •  -> Registration for the next higher level + placement test

You will receive the invitation to the placement test by email once your registration has been checked. The placement tests will take place in person from 15 October to 20 October 2026. You can book a test slot via OPAL once you have received our invitation.

You do not have any proof of language proficiency (Certificates from online placement tests will not be accepted).

Preferred German course

Please select your preferred German course for the 2026/27 winter semester. 

Students: Your first course choice must be a course scheduled for your student group. If no course is scheduled for your student group, please specify two course options of your choice.

Other interested parties: Please specify two course options of your choice. 

Please check that the course options you have chosen actually fit into your schedule.

Please note that your course selection must correspond to your language qualification. (For example, if you have an A1 certificate or a certificate of attendance for a German course at A1 level, you can only register for an A2.1 course.)
