• Residence permit of at least one semester
• Higher education entrance qualification (HZB) (Hint: At the website of uni assist you can check whether your HZB or degree acquired abroad is recognised in Germany)
• German language skills (at least A1 level) and/or English language skills

• Officially certified copy of school leaving certificate and/or degree certificate (e. g. Bachelor's certificate); additionally, a certified translation into German or English for each document is required, which is not written in one of these languages
• Proof of German language skills 

Study in German:

• With study preparation: 30 April for winter semester, 31 October for summer semester
• With study preparation: 15 July for winter term, 15 January for summer semester

Study in English:

The application process for refugees is generally carried out via the APP application portal.

First you have to register in the system. The system will then guide you through the application process.

TUBAF offers study-preparatory German intensive courses level B1, level B2 and level C1.

The online learning platform "Kiron – Open Higher Education" offers free courses for refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, Jordanians and Lebanese, e. g. web design, programming skills or language courses.

BAföG is state support for financing studies in Germany. Refugees are also entitled to benefits under certain conditions. The current residence status is the decisive factor. Those entitled to BAföG without a waiting period are:

• recognised persons entitled to asylum,
• recognised refugees according to the Geneva Refugee Convention,
• persons entitled to subsidiary protection.

Not entitled to BAföG are:

• refugees who are taking part in specialist and language courses to prepare them for university studies
• refugees whose asylum procedure has not yet been completed

Tolerated persons and refugees on humanitarian grounds receive BAföG after a stay of at least 15 months in Germany. All information on applying for BAföG for studies at TUBAF, can be found on the website of the "Studentenwerk Freiberg".

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) administers the scholarship programme “Hilde Domin Programme” with funds from the Federal Foreign Office (AA). The programme serves to support students and doctoral candidates from across the globe, who are at risk of being formally or de facto denied educational or other rights in their country of origin, and to provide these students and doctoral candidates with an opportunity to begin or complete a study or research degree at a higher education institution in Germany.
