The "Future Forum Climate-Friendly Universities (ZKH)" project really picked up speed again in 2025. In a short space of time, a comprehensive status report was compiled that depicts the status quo of TU Bergakademie Freiberg in the area of sustainability and climate protection. The report was based on the areas of governance, teaching, research, transfer, campus and operations. The SWOT analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and risks contained therein has shown that TU Bergakademie Freiberg lives up to its designation as a "resource university" by already comprehensively reflecting sustainability in teaching and research and transferring the knowledge gained there to society, business, science and politics. However, the status quo analysis also revealed that sustainability aspects could be given greater consideration in the context of governance and, in particular, in campus and other university operations - at least as far as the country-specific requirements and structures allow. The potential for improvement in this area is in line with the objectives of the project, as a climate protection concept is to be drawn up during the project period, which is to provide for comprehensive measures in Action Area 1 of the Whole Institution Approach "Operations and Campus Management" in particular. By implementing the measures defined in the climate protection concept, at least 10% of the university's greenhouse gas emissions are to be saved.
In order to achieve this goal, it is now necessary to identify and subsequently implement targeted measures. The internal university task force accompanying the project has drafted an initial catalogue of measures, which will be successively supplemented by stakeholder meetings, bilateral discussions and the involvement of all university members. In order to facilitate the latter, a digital ideas box was created, which enables university members to contribute to the identification of measures.
The highlight of the development of measures will be the face-to-face workshop in Freiberg, which in turn offers all university members the opportunity to participate. Further information will be announced in due course.
