TUBAF is number 1 for patent applications. In a recent ranking by the Institute of the German Economy (IW), it has held its own in a Germany-wide comparison. The IW counts around 24 patent applications per 1,000 students at TUBAF between 2018 and 2023; the total number is therefore 81 patents. According to the study, an average of 2 patents per 1,000 students are registered at patent-active German universities.
Professor Martin Bertau, Vice-Rector for Research and Transfer, emphasises: "The high number of registered patents impressively demonstrates the strength of TU Bergakademie Freiberg in the field of application-oriented research. The successful development of industry-relevant technologies on the basis of recognised cutting-edge research has a long tradition here and is also reflected in the close cooperation with numerous industrial partners and the practical training of our students."
