TUBAF is number one for patent applications. It has maintained its position in a recent ranking by the German Economic Institute (IW). The IW recorded around 24 patent applications per 1,000 students per year at TUBAF between 2018 and 2023. According to the study, an average of 2 patents per 1,000 students are filed at German universities active in patenting.
Professor Martin Bertau, Vice-Rector for Research and Transfer, emphasises: “The high number of patent applications is a striking demonstration of TU Bergakademie Freiberg’s strength in the field of applied research. We have a long tradition of successfully developing industry-relevant technologies based on recognised cutting-edge research, and this is also reflected in our close cooperation with numerous industrial partners and the practice-oriented training we provide for our students.”
