The lecture theatre in the Schlossplatzquartier at TU Bergakademie Freiberg now has a name - it has been named after donors Dr Peter and Dr Erika Krüger. This makes the Krüger lecture theatre the only lecture theatre with its own name to date. The naming is a sign of recognition for the commitment of the Dr Erich Krüger Foundation.
"The Dr Erich Krüger Foundation significantly supports the positive developments at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Founder Dr Peter Krüger would have been 100 years old on 14 February 2024. To mark the occasion, the university has named a lecture theatre in the central Schlossplatz quarter after the donor couple," says Rector Prof Klaus-Dieter Barbknecht.
As Chairwoman of the Dr Erich Krüger Foundation, Dr Erika Krüger is very successfully committed to the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and far beyond. To date, she has initiated and supported two large research colleges (Freiberg High Pressure Research Centre and Freiberg Biohydrometallurgical Centre BHMZ), in which research is carried out in important future-oriented fields. The foundation is also currently funding a large number of other research projects at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, for example these.
Dr Erika Krüger has already received several awards for her outstanding commitment to the foundation. Most recently, she was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in April 2023. In 2012, she received the Saxon Order of Merit and the Medal of Honour of the University City of Freiberg. In 2014, she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology at TU Bergakademie Freiberg in recognition of her outstanding achievements. Dr Krüger has been an honorary senator of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg since 2017.
After the death of her husband Peter Krüger in July 2007, Erika Krüger took over the chairmanship of the Dr Erich Krüger Foundation. In continuing her husband's life's work, she has realised and continued the guiding principle of the foundation in his spirit: the promotion of practice- and application-oriented science and research and the next generation of scientists.

The Dr Erich Krüger Foundation was established on 14 December 2006 by the Munich entrepreneur Dr Peter Krüger. With the Dr Erich Krüger Foundation, the TU Bergakademie Freiberg received the largest endowment of a state university in Germany.
