Dr Michael Harz is a new member of the TUBAF University Council. The Managing Director of Freiberg Compound Materials GmbH (FCM) was appointed to the University Council on 8 February 2025 by Saxony's Minister of Science Sebastian Gemkow at the suggestion of the Senate of TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
Dr Michael Harz completed his doctorate in microsystems technology at TU Dresden in 1996 and has since worked in various technical and management positions in the international semiconductor industry. He has been COO at FCM since 2011 and Managing Director (CEO) since 2019. "Dr Harz has extensive experience in the regional and international economy and brings proven expertise in materials development and manufacturing. As Managing Director of a company based in Freiberg, he has excellent connections and can provide valuable impetus for the strategic development of TU Bergakademie Freiberg, particularly in the areas of innovation, technology transfer and industrial cooperation," explained the Chairman of the University Council of TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Professor Bernhard Cramer.
The University Council is an advisory and supervisory body, it is involved in strategy formation and in the structural and development planning of the university. The responsibilities of the University Council are regulated in Section 91 SächsHSG.
