On 6 February 2025, the Extended Senate of TU Bergakademie Freiberg elected Professor Jutta Emes as the new Rector of the university in the 3rd ballot. The appointment as Rector is made by the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism. Her term of office is expected to begin in July 2025 and will last 5 years. She will then take over from the current Rector, Professor Klaus-Dieter Barbknecht, who has led the Saxon university for ten years.

Prof Dr Jutta Emes has held the Chair of Marketing & Media at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar since 2011. From February 2022 to February 2023, she was interim head of the Bauhaus-Universität, previously Vice President for International Affairs, Diversity and Transfer.
Only the members of the Extended Senate of TU Bergakademie Freiberg were eligible to vote. This consists of the voting members of the Senate as well as the representatives of university lecturers, academic staff, students and administrative and technical staff elected to the Extended Senate. The election was held by secret ballot.
