Musically accompanied by the acapella choir VocaVox of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, 42 students from 5 nations received a Deutschlandstipendium on 12 November. They will receive financial support for one or two semesters.

The scholarship holders received their certificates at a ceremony. "For me, it is a particularly rewarding task to be able to present the scholarships. This is an investment in the future for the students, but also for society as a whole. The event provides an opportunity to exchange ideas with each other and with the sponsors, to learn from each other and to network," says Professor Swanhild Bernstein, Vice-Rector for Teaching, Studies and Lifelong Learning at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. "Thank you to all sponsors for their support!"

The forum provided plenty of time and space for in-depth discussions on topics such as attracting sponsors, organising events, communication and networking, selection procedures and non-material funding. Everyday questions and problems, as well as personal ideas, suggestions and examples of good practice were focussed on and discussed in workshops.

The next application for a Deutschlandstipendium will be possible in January 2026.

Long-standing commitment of numerous scholarship donors

The scholarship programme owes its success to the numerous companies, associations, foundations and private individuals who fund half of the scholarship of 300 euros per month for up to one year. The other half comes from the federal government. Every year, an average of 74 scholarships are awarded at TUBAF, which corresponds to a total funding volume of around 266,000 euros. TUBAF organises the selection of scholarship holders, ensures that the scholarship is paid out and brings sponsors and young students together.

On behalf of TUBAF, the Vice-Rector thanked the sponsors in particular for their ongoing commitment, in some cases over many years. This winter semester, the following foundations and companies are supporting the Deutschlandstipendium at TU Bergakademie Freiberg:

Good grades and academic achievements as well as social and community involvement are taken into account for the selection process. Special personal family circumstances under which the applicants are coping with their studies are also taken into account. The selected scholarship holders receive financial support of 300 euros per month for a maximum of one year and benefit from a network of committed students and companies.
