The exhibition Women of Mathematics from Around the World focuses on female mathematicians from different countries and cultures and honours their significant contributions to mathematics. It presents contemporary personalities and shows the diversity of mathematical disciplines as well as individual life and career paths. The aim is to make role models visible, to inspire young people in particular for mathematical topics and to contribute to gender equality in the STEM subjects.

Prof. Dr Lisa Sauermann is Professor of Discrete Mathematics at the University of Bonn and is one of the leading international female mathematicians in the field of combinatorics. After studying mathematics, she completed her doctorate at Stanford University and then worked as a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) before accepting the call to Bonn in 2023. In her research, Lisa Sauermann focuses in particular on extremal and probabilistic combinatorics as well as on questions at the interface of algebra and discrete mathematics. In addition to her scientific work, she is involved in the promotion of mathematical talent and is committed to the visibility of women in mathematics.

She has received numerous awards for her outstanding scientific achievements, including the prestigious European Prize in Combinatorics and the Kaven Prize. She attracted international attention at a young age: as a schoolgirl, she won several gold medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
