Open doors with "Die Sendung mit der Maus": Foramini-what?
They are virtually invisible, yet incredibly important to the Earth. Some of them are so numerous that they form mountains, and even the Egyptian pyramids are made up of them. Hardly anyone knows about them: foraminifera. Foramini – what are they, you ask? Tiny single-celled organisms with beautiful shells, which lived even before the dinosaurs and are still around today. They float in the sea or move along the seabed using jelly-like pseudopodia. Follow them on their journey!
For the 2026 ‘Open the Door’ Day, the TU Bergakademie Freiberg is planning two geology/paeontology activities for children aged 7 and over.

The ‘Türen auf mit der Maus’ open day takes place annually on 3 October and offers children, families and ‘Maus’ fans exclusive insights into the work of companies, public authorities, clubs, institutions and many more. What makes it special is that many organisers put on creative, exciting and fun activities to show ‘Maus’ fans what they do and how they work.
