IWTG Colloquium: Archaeology of the Zinnberg Mining and Processing Plant Sauersack in the Ore Mountains
The Sauersack tin mining and processing plant was built as part of the Third Reich's war effort between 1940 and 1943 and comprised several partial areas. After 1945, the plant was never restored. In 1947/1948, machines and valuable material of all kinds were dismantled and transported away, and the entire plant was left to natural processes.
Since 2013, this complex and highly authentic site has become the object of an interdisciplinary research project that focuses on the construction form and its transformations, the study of machinery equipment and technology, and research into the living conditions of groups that worked at the plant. An essential part of the activities is also the presentation of research results and work with the public.
