Melt Studies by X-ray Raman and X-ray Emission Spectroscopy
Summary
The purpose of the MeXXS project is to implement an aerodynamically driven levitation device combined with laser-heating at the X-ray Raman scattering (XRS) and X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) setup of beamline ID20 at the Extremely Brilliant Source (EBS) of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF). The envisioned setup is highly multi-disciplinary and will not only push new frontiers in research on disordered matter and melts, but will address likewise scientific questions from a broader user-base active in chemistry, physics, engineering and materials science. It will significantly extend the capabilities of beamline ID20 to worldwide uniqueness and open the path to new applications in X-ray characterization of low-Z materials in the liquid at extreme temperatures and in the supercooled state
